Back To Role-Playing

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons:

Advanced Dungeons & Dragons was the first role-playing game I ever played. I have seen my character choices for this system change over the years from bizarre monsters, to power-gamed characters and finally where I am now creatively role played characters. The following is a list of my favorite characters and how I played them.

William Daggart  - William was the unproclaimed leader of a bunch of bizzare misfits that called themselves the Black Pansies. William was the character that defined the Norm of that party. He was a proud, yet stubborn human fighter of 18 years of age when he started at first level. His only special abilty then was his ability to throw any weapon with the easy one would throw a dagger. He later picked up an anchor and began wielding it as his trademark manouver. William was a creative, yet clumsy giant of a man standing at 6'4". During his first outing he accidently slayed two party members. The rest of the group has not let him live that down to this day. When he was 9th level he was changed into a Silver Dragon through a wish so that he could wed his love the Silver Dragon named Sterling. He had two children, Silvia his daughter who takes after her mother and Erican his young son who like his father is humbled by his human background dreaming of one day becoming a paladin.

When he retired William was the first recorded true hero of the gaming world because of his good deeds and kind heart.

Jurae Torph - Jurae was the leader of an elven war party. He and his second in command were the only party members who acted like elves. But when his back was broken cruelly in a battle with a demon, the rest of the party began to turn on him, so he in turn turned on them.  He made a pact with a demon inorder to regain his physical stature. During a bizarre turn of events Jurae was killed by his commander, when he realized that his commander was turning traitor.  He then had to deal with the fact that his soul belong to the demon because of the pact. Unfortunately this ownership of his soul was only temporary, as the demon was called to the mortal realm and destroyed. This allowed Jurae to take over the demon's role due to his naturally high ego and will power. Now Jurae exists as the Demi-God of torture and self proclaimed protector of the elven-way.

Jurae is the only character I have ever had that achieved God status and I didn't even plan it to happen that way.

Teater Beanbag - Teater Beanbag is probably my favorite AD&D character. He is a Dragonlance Kender who some how got lost and end up on another gaming world. He is a curious, carefree and adorable little guy who ocassionally lets his curousity and stupornness get the better of him. One of his closest companions is a Gnome Inventor who has a really neat toy color spray gun. At one point he and the gnome travelled into the realm of dreams where Teater died theoratically three times but because he didn't believe that it was real he managed to see his own body be splatted into pulp which he found was most exciting and one of the most interesting things he had seen. He later was teleported into the sky of another world and taught himself how to sky dive(most exilerating). I like playing Teater because he is the carefree child I wish I still was. Teater Beanbag

Lexandria - She is a sweet young gnome who prefers to heal rather than hurt. She prefers to fight with her words than with weapons. She will not knowingly kill any creature intentionally and holds life in the highest regard. She is a patriotic and noble gnome and will attempt to defend her gnomish heritage and background with out resorting to violence. Chazix Klax (a.k.a. Psycho-Dwarf) - Chazix got his nickname because he was played by his alignment, psychotic and unpredictable. He would do anything he wanted and fight to the death if some one challenged him. This of course caused problems with other characters because Chazix did what he wanted, when he wanted to do it, regardless of who he pissed off in the process.  He was completely and uderly out of his mind and that's why I enjoyed playing him because he had balls bigger than he was or in other words his ego was writing checks his body couldn't cash. Of all the characters I have played Chazix is the only one truelly feared by other players because of his out look on life. At one point he attack two defenseless old men for know other reason then he wanted one of there cheap fishing knives. He also scared a  bar made by throwing a butcher knife into the wall beside her head because he was bored. He climbed onto a roof of the building the group of staying on and proceed to hack his way back in because he was the first one up in the morning and wanted to make an impression.
